Crisis Interventions

In response to the all-time record low Antarctic sea ice levels as a result of warm ocean waters, Kyrios has started a new intervention on 27 September 2023 to increase Antarctic sea ice. This intervention will last throughout summer till March 2024.

Kyrios has began a new intervention on 27 September 2023 to mend the ozone hole, which has grown to one of the biggest on record.

Two weeks after Kyrios diverted storm clouds that were remnants of Typhoon Khanun towards wildfires in south Yakutia, hotspots in south Yakutia were completely extinguished.

More than a month after Kyrios started the wildfire intervention in the Russia Far East region on 4 July 2023, most wildfires in the east of Yakutia (also known as Sakha Republic) and Magadan regions have been extinguished. On 12 August, Kyrios diverted storm clouds that were remnants of Typhoon Khanun away from Primorsky and Khabarovsk, redirecting them towards the wildfires that were still burning in south Yakutia.

From 29 July, Kyrios has intervened to help reduce precipitation brought about by Typhoon Doksuri over Fujian province and eastern China. Kyrios' intervention also helped steer Typhoon Khanun away from mainland China.

Due to an escalating wildfire crisis, Kyrios has begun to intervene again on 4 July 2023 in the Russia Far East region to bring wildfires there under control and to extinguish them. The target area spans 1,600 km in length.

Only a few hotspots remain as rain continues to fall across the intervention area. The landscape is also markedly green as seen from a recent satellite imagery. As such, Kyrios has decided to end this intervention.

We observe that rain has now moved further north, and importantly, there are very few hotspots now across the intervention area. As spring takes hold, the landscape is also observed to be greening as seen from latest satellite imagery.

Since 8th May 2023, Kyrios has been helping to extinguish wildfires in the Russian region north of Kazakhstan. In this update, we look at how the intervention is taking effect by reviewing the precipitation data from JAXA Global Rainfall Watch.

We look at China's return to normalcy from Covid restrictions and explain why there was such a dramatic drop in cases following the peak in December 2022. Cases remained low well past the annual travel rush during Chinese New Year despite experts predicting several waves of infections.
